A versatile and hard-working player who played several different defensive and midfield roles in his early years,[67][68][69] Vidal eventually found his position at Juventus in the centre as a box-to-box midfielder, capable of assisting his teammates in both defense and attack.[70] Throughout his career, he has also been deployed as a central defender, as a defensive midfielder, as an attacking midfielder, or even on the wing, due to his crossing ability.[67][68][69][71]
It was these displays for Juventus that led him to be nicknamed Il Guerriero ("The Warrior"), Rey Arturo ("King Arthur") and La Piranha by the Italian press for his hard-tackling and aggressive, tenacious style of play.[5][15] Vidal is a complete midfielder, known for his marking, positional sense, tackling, and anticipation, attributes which allow him to be effective at intercepting passes, winning back possession, and subsequently starting an attack.[67][72] He is also gifted with good technique, pace, and stamina, as well as good vision, good distribution, a powerful shot from distance, and an eye for goal.[67][69][71] Having been the first-choice penalty shooter for Juventus,[73] he is also an accurate penalty kick taker.[74] Due to his strength and physical characteristics, he is also effective in the air.[67] All these qualities have enabled him to become one of the leading exponents of his position.[72][75]

A quick, creative and technical player,[123] Özil excels in an advanced playmaking role,[124] as a winger on either flank, or as an attacking midfielder through the centre of the pitch.[125][126] During the 2010 FIFA World Cup, he was also deployed in a new role which was later described as a false-10 or central winger, due to his tendency to drift from the centre into a wide position when in possession of the ball;[127][128] he has also been deployed in a more advanced role, where he usually functions as a second striker, as he often drops into deeper positions, from which he can link the midfield with the attack and initiate passing moves.[126] An elegant left-footed player, his main attributes are his vision,[129][130][131] his control, movement, passing range, and accurate crossing ability,[125][131][132] which allow him to get into good attacking positions, create chances, and provide many assists for his teammates.[133]
Due to his creative ability and offensive prowess as a playmaker, Özil has been called "assist-king" in the media.[131][134][135][136] As of January 2016, Özil has the best ratio of assists per game in the history of the Premier League.[137] Germany under-21 manager Horst Hrubesch once said, "We in Germany are prone to rave about foreign players. Christian Dannemann Eriksen (born 14 February 1992) is a Danish professional footballer who plays as an attacking midfielder for English club Tottenham Hotspur and the Denmark national team. He made his debut for the Denmark national team in March 2010, and was the youngest player of the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.[3][4]
In 2011, Eriksen was named Danish Football Player of the Year, Dutch Football Talent of the Year, Ajax Talent of the Year (Marco van Basten Award), and made the UEFA Euro U-21 Team of the Tournament.[5] He also won the Eredivisie with Ajax in 2010–11, 2011–12 and in 2012–13 before departing for Tottenham Hotspur in August 2013, for a fee of around £11.5million.[6] He won the Tottenham Hotspur Player of the Year award for the 2013–14 season and recently in 2016-17, and in 2015, he won the Danish Football Player of the Year award for the third year in a row.

After starting his career with Colo-Colo, Chile's most successful club, Vidal joined Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen, where he played for four seasons.
